De regenboogvlag gaat uit en tijdens de botenparade is iedereen \u2018pretty in pink\u2019. De feestmaand is pas voorbij nadat extravagant uitgedoste drag queens - zij aan zij met buurtgenoten - over de Zeedijk hebben geparadeerd tijdens het eeuwenoude volksfeest Hartjesdag. Fotografe Shirley Agudo raakte gefascineerd door deze uitbundige en vrijgevochten manifestaties. Ze fotografeerde jarenlang de bezoekers van de festiviteiten en toont in het tweetalige boek <i>Amsterdam Streethearts</i> hun flamboyante uitdossingen. Backstage mocht zij ook van dichtbij het proces van de transformatie volgen en dat zien we hier voor het eerst in boekvorm, met een tekst in het Nederlands en het Engels.<br />Every summer in Amsterdam the streets and canals come alive with a profusion of color, from the LGBT rainbow flags and the flood of pink in the Canal Parade \u2013 the world\u2019s premier gay pride celebration on water \u2013 to the flamboyant costumes of the drag queens and kings who participate in the Drag Queen Olympics and Hartjesdag (Day of Hearts). Shirley Agudo, American photographer, provides a striking look at these three events that celebrate the city\u2019s long-standing tradition of diversity and pride. Included are over 400 photos \u2013 with first-time-released backstage shots of the drag artists\u2019 transformations \u2013 plus an interview with drag queen, Richard Keldoulis, a.k.a. Jennifer Hopelezz. It\u2019s a joyful tribute to the Streethearts that make these events come alive.</p>",
