Spiegeler depicts Rembrandt's perfections and shortcomings in a broad palette of poems. It provides a form of biography the likes of which one seldom sees. Not just Rembrandt, his voice, his son Titus and his cat, but also his loved ones and contemporaries all pass in review. Even such artists as Vincent van Gogh and Aat Veldhoen who only saw the light of day centuries later play a role in the poems. Naturally there is no getting around a consideration of his paintings and etchings, his rise as a painter of genius and his sad demise. Without Equal is a poetic reflection on the life of the Netherlands' greatest painter through the eyes of a contemporary artist and poet. The collection ends with a glossary of notes on the background to some of the poems. Without Equal demonstrates how Rembrandt and his work was able to enchant both his and our own time. The publication of this collection marks the second and surprising phase of her poethood.<br />Brigitte Spiegeler (1971) is naast dichter, beeldend kunstenaar en advocaat in Den Haag en Parijs. Sinds 2003 exposeert zij regelmatig in binnen-en buitenland met o.a. fotografie en beeldhouwwerken. Ze debuteerde in 2015 met de bundel Krijgskunst in 2018 gevolgd door Kinderroof & Bijzang.",
