Phyllis is an African, a Nigerian. As a child she had to survive the atrocities of the Biafran war and she received the first indications that the woman whom she called her mother her whole life, was in fact not her mother; she was only the second wife of her father.
As adolescent, already married and having children, she studied in Dallas, Texas, USA. There she had to find out what racism means, not only between black and white, but also among black American students and black African or non-American students. It was very difficult for her to accept racism between different black groups: Americans or Africans. Are we not all black people?
Back in Nigeria, she had to experience that hatred between families and voodoo practices are enough to destroy a marriage.
Later in Europe, she expected to find friendly, correct, white people, like her father had always described the colonial people he had worked for in Nigeria, when he was young. Instead, she met with dubious and corrupted business people, even among the police and other officials she could expect . . .
But the worst was yet to come. Running away from corrupted business people in Nigeria, she became the victim of voodoo and black magic in her village and nearly lost her life.
That she is still alive and able to write this book is a miracle. It is only her strong belief in God and His Son Jesus Christ that prevented her from losing her mind.
I would strongly advise you to read this book, and you will see that even in the deepest and darkest pit, you can find light.",
